Although most people did, Mila Kunis stands by her decision not to stand up and cheer for Will Smith at the Oscars.
Smith, who is 54 years old, went to the Oscars with the 39-year-old star of “The Luckiest Girl Alive” and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, on March 27. Chris Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, during the show. Smith got up from his chair and went on stage, where he played “Rock.” It was a joke about how short Jada’s hair was. She has a condition called alopecia. Will said in a statement a few days later that the joke was “too much for him to take” and that he “reacted emotionally” because of it.
Shortly after that, Smith won the award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard. After he gave a speech that made him cry, people stood up to cheer for him.
Kunis said that she was “shocked” by how many people in the crowd stood up for him after what happened. She said this in a new C Magazine cover story.
When you have people to lead, it makes sense to show them how to do things. We live with a small group of people, and a mother of two said she would never tell them to do something she wouldn’t do herself.
Kunis said, “It was clear to me that no one should stand up, so I was surprised by how many did.” I thought, “Wow, we live in a crazy time when people care more about how they look than what is right.”
Smith has since apologized to Rock and quit the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, so he can’t attend its events for the next ten years. In the upcoming drama, Emancipation, which could be nominated for awards next year, he will be back on the big screen.
In a video posted earlier this summer, Smith said that since then, he has “done a lot of thinking and personal work.” He said, “I tried to get in touch with Chris, but he said he wasn’t ready to talk and would call me when he was. So, Chris, I want you to know that I’m sorry. My actions were wrong, and I’m here when you’re ready to talk. “
Smith said, “I’m a person. I’m trying to say I’m sorry without being embarrassed. I did something wrong, and I’m trying not to feel like a piece of crap because of it. “
He also told his fans he was sorry: “I hate disappointing people. It hurts my head and heart to think I didn’t live up to what people thought of me and how they saw me.
In the video, he said, “I know it was confusing and shocking, but I promise I am deeply committed to bringing light, love, and joy to the world.” “If you wait, I promise we’ll be friends again,” he told her.
