Sony ps5 history NPD says is, Sony’s latest earnings report says that as of March 31, the company had sold 7.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles. There are now 47.6 million people who pay for PlayStation Plus, which is a 14.7% increase from last year. With the fourth-quarter numbers, the PlayStation business as a whole made a total operating profit of $3.14 billion for the 2020 fiscal year, which was a record for Sony.
In its last earnings report, Sony said that it had sold 4.5 million PS5s around the world by the end of 2020. That means that from January to March, 3.3 million units were shipped, which gives an idea of how much Sony can make right now. It’s still hard to buy a PS5, though, because demand is much higher than supply. The drop from one quarter to the next is probably because Sony is making more of the system before it comes out.

NPD said earlier this month that in its first five months on the market, the PS5 sold more units and made more money than any other console in the US’s history. NPD says that, for the first three months of 2021, Nintendo has sold more Switch units in the US than Sony has sold PS5s. That doesn’t really surprise me, since it’s been hard to find a PS5 since the first batch came out.
Sony also sold one million more PS4 consoles in the last quarter, bringing the total number of PS4 consoles sold to date to 115.9 million. The number is down 28.6% from the year before when it was 1.4 million. Sony’s report says that the PS5 is selling a little faster than the PS4 around the world. As of March 31, 2014, the PS4 had shipped 7.6 million units.
